Our Learning Home: Westlands Park
A dynamic, nature-rich environment for joyful, place-based education
Westlands Park is the heart of the Gran Via School—a vibrant, 25-acre community park in Greenwood Village that offers the ideal landscape for a nature-based micro school. With its open meadows, shaded groves, winding paths, sensory gardens, and multi-use play areas, the park creates a living classroom where students learn through exploration, curiosity, and connection.
Our guides intentionally use the park’s diverse ecologies to support hands-on, inquiry-centered learning. The rolling hills become natural observation points. The wetlands and plant habitats offer daily opportunities for scientific investigation. The large green expanses allow for collaborative games, field science, group challenges, and movement-based learning. The playground structures and climbing elements foster motor development, risk-taking, and social skill building. And the amphitheater and quiet nooks become gathering spaces for storytelling, reflection, Spanish language practice, and community circles.
Westlands Park’s multi-use, flexible spaces allow our students to move fluidly between creative expression, STEM exploration, nature study, and project-based experiences. Whether students are building solar ovens, conducting water-cycle experiments, mapping trails, practicing Spanish vocabulary outdoors, or engaging in group debates under a shaded pavilion—the park provides endless opportunities for learning rooted in the natural world.
Gran Via’s use of Westlands Park is more than a location.
It’s a philosophy: learning that is grounded in nature, movement, joy, and community.
